The next generation MPV

Railcare’s workshop in Skelleftehamn, where the next generation MPV* is being built, is full of activity before the holidays. A little tension was in the air as several important components were lifted into place.

The new battery-powered maintenance machine will be equipped with pantographs that enable charging directly from the railway catenary.

– The construction of the MPV is in its planned stage despite some delays in the delivery of materials. They do a really good job in the workshop, says Ulf Marklund, MD of Railcare Machine.

This day was no exception as all preparations were made to lift the transformer, charger and filter, as well as the pantograph itself into place.

– The lift went really well and even if the driver of the mobile crane is good at what he does, it is always exciting to see that your designs fit in practice, says Johannes Viklund, Designer at Railcare, and concludes:

– Immediately after the holidays, we will start connecting the electrical parts and then test the pantograph before winter.

* MPV stands for Multi-Purpose Vehicle and is a working vehicle with a versatile area of use in railway maintenance. Using vacuum technology, it carries out, among other things, cable location, cable lowering and ballast replacement on the railway.
