Railcare delivers a complete solution for Beacon Rail

Railcare's Lokverkstad has been commissioned to Nordic-adapt five Traxx locomotives for the leasing company Beacon Rail. The project is worth approximately SEK 12 million and will be carried out during the first two quarters of 2023.

The project involves an overall solution where Railcare will install the safety system, ATC2, and modify the locomotives for Nordic conditions, as well as manage the approval process with the European Union's Railway Agency, ERA. The approved locomotives will then be leased by Beacon Rail to Railcare's transport operations.

– We carried out some projects for Beacon Rail in 2022 and have built a good relationship with them. Happily, it has resulted in a renewed trust, says Patrik Söderholm, Operations Manager at Railcare Lokverkstad, and continues:

– Thanks to these previous projects, we now have the opportunity to arrange a complete solution for Beacon Rail, which will be significant for our transport operations.

The Traxx locomotives have been driven in Europe. However, to be reliably driven in Sweden and function well in Nordic conditions, several modifications need to be made together with the installation of ATC2. The first locomotive has already been modified and will shortly be put into service for trial operation, which then forms the basis for approval by ERA. The remaining four locomotives will then be adapted continuously until the summer.

– We will educate more of our employees to fulfil the competence required for this type of locomotive. Combined with the good relationship we have with Beacon Rail, we lay the foundation for continued good collaboration concludes Patrik.

Beacon Rail has existed since 2008 with operations in a total of 17 countries. Beacon Rail provides rail leasing services to passenger and freight train operators. In their vehicle fleet, they have a total of 481 locomotives, 575 passenger vehicles and 1100 goods wagons.
